AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library teen programs for February are:
Tweens in the Teen Space, Wednesdays, Feb. 4, 11 and 25, from noon to 2 p.m.: Tweens are invited to the Teen Space on half-day Wednesdays for crafts or board games, or to simply hang out or to get a head start on homework. This program is just for Tweens who are in 5th and 6th grade.
Teen Anime Club, Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 4-5 p.m., in the Androscoggin Community Room: Teens, ages 12-18, can drop in to talk about their favorite (or least favorite) manga, watch this week’s selection of anime, and try a hand at drawing your own characters. Snacks will be provided.
Teen Life Skills: Healthy Relationships, Thursdays, Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26, from 3-4 p.m. in the Teen Space: February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. In recognition of this important annual event, schools and teen centers all over the country are participating in special activities. Julia Teitel, the Androscoggin County Community Educator for Safe Voices, will be at APL every Thursday for a fun game or activity centered around dating and healthy relationships. There will be snacks, candy and prizes. Just for teens, ages 12-18.
Teens! Friday @ the Movies: 10 Things I Hate About You, Friday, Feb. 6, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room: This month, in keeping with the healthy relationships theme, come watch 10 Things I Hate About You, starring Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. “A new kid must find a guy to date the meanest girl in school, the older sister of the girl he has a crush on, who cannot date until her older sister does.” And of course, there will be snacks. Just for teens, ages 12-18.
Gaming Hour, Wednesday, Feb. 11, and Friday, Feb. 20, from 4-5 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room: Play games on XBox and Wii (sorry, only games rated teen and younger). Just for teens, ages 12-18.
Books & Cookies Book Club, Friday, Feb. 13, from 4-5 p.m., in The Library Café: Join us each month for a different kind of book club. Just for teens, ages 12-18.
Maine Job Corps for teens and new adults, Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 10-11 a.m. in the conference room: Get the skills you need to succeed in today’s job market. Jill Moody of the Maine Job Corps visits to explain how the program works and who is eligible.
Teens! DIY Takeover, Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 4-5 p.m., in the Androscoggin Community Room: We will be making hot cocoa snowmen. Pre-registration is requested. Register online or call 333-6640, ext. 4. Just for teens, ages 12-18.
DIY Teens! Media Club, Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 4-5 p.m. in the CREATE! Media Lab: Movies. Music. Graphic arts. If you can imagine it, you can create it. Make trailers, podcasts and more. For teens, ages 12-18.
SAPRS, Thursday, Feb. 26, from 3-4 p.m. in the Teen Space: Visit with Molly from Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services. Each month, she will visit to discuss and create awareness of teen issues like healthy relationships, sexual assault, bullying, harassment, substance use/abuse, and internet safety. This month, she will join Julia from Safe Voices for Relationship Jeopardy. Just for teens, this event takes place in the Teen Space and may include snacks.
APL Farmer’s Market, Friday, Feb. 27, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.: Annual community agricultural celebration is packed with some of your favorite farm products, along with some new vendors, live music and country demonstrations and exhibits. A family event, this year’s Farmer’s Market features homemade goods, veggies and country crafted products. The Southern Maine Chapter of the Embroider’s Guild will be on hand to exhibit some of their gorgeous work. This event is free.
