Have I heard it correctly, that the Maine Legislature will be considering a bill to re-instate the death penalty for certain crimes? Maine has had a positive reputation because the judicial system does not kill people.
I cannot believe that my old friend, Sen. Bill Diamond, is advocating the death penalty.
We all know that human beings are capable of horrific crimes against their fellow human beings. If they cannot be rehabilitated, and if society must be protected, then they should spend their entire lives in prison.
I believe that God commends us to love one another. And, of course, one of the Ten Commandments reads “Thou shall not kill.”
I would urge Democrats in the Legislature not to allow the death penalty to be reinstated.
