CARTHAGE — Fire destroyed a vacant mobile home on West Side Road on Wednesday afternoon after water from a leaking roof caused an electrical short, fire Chief Dan Skidgell said.
There were no injuries, he said.
Firefighters from Carthage and Weld found the home engulfed in flames, Skidgell said.
“The fire quickly engulfed the entire trailer,” Skidgell said. “The homeowner, who lives in a house nearby, saw the fire and called it in to us. By the time Carthage and Weld got there, the trailer was pretty much a total loss.”
Skidgell said the homeowner did not have any personal belongings in the trailer.
“There wasn’t really anything of note in the trailer that the homeowner lost,” Skidgell said. “From what I can understand, he was pumping water from the unoccupied trailer to their house.”
