DIXFIELD — Fire crews from several towns were on Canton Point Road after a home was reported in flames shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday.
Early reports were that occupants of the house at 1169 Canton Point Road escaped without injury, but the wood framed, single-story house was said to be engulfed.
Firefighters from Rumford, Peru, Mexico and East Dixfield were at the scene. Tankers were shuttling water from an area off nearby Common Road.
Canton Point Road runs along the Androscoggin River, parallel to Route 108.
The fire started in the basement of the home, officials said.
Fire crews were expected to begin an investigation once the blaze was brought under control.
