LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine is holding a Try-Me Week from Feb. 15-22. Enjoy a swim at the YWCA or try Magic Y-World, L/A’s only indoor, gigantic float. Work off calories by joining any water fitness classes or open swims.

All open swim times and water fitness classes will be offered at a discounted rate. Family open swim times and Magic Y-World will also be offered throughout the week. For a schedule stop by the YWCA on 130 East Ave. or visit www.ywcamaine.org.

Lifeguard training

The YWCA of Central Maine will offer American Red Cross Lifeguard Training from 9 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. Feb. 18-20.

This course teaches students the knowledge and skills essential to prevent, and if necessary, respond to aquatic emergencies appropriately. This course includes American Red Cross CPR/AED for professional rescuers and standard first aid.

Participants must be at least 15 years of age and complete a 300-yard swim, timed deep water object removal prerequisite to starting the course and treading water for two minutes without using hands. The prerequisite test will take place on the first day of class.

Members of the YWCA pay $275 for the class and nonmembers pay $300. Space is limited and registrations need to be in by Feb. 16. For more information or to register, call 795-4050.
