WESTBROOK (AP) — Maine residents are getting an opportunity to ask Gov. Paul LePage questions about his effort to cut the income tax and raise sales taxes.

The Republican governor is holding a town hall on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center. He’s being joined by Jonathan LaBonte, the director of the Office of Policy and Management and Auburn mayor.

LePage is proposing to slash the corporate and personal incomes taxes, eliminate the estate tax and raise the sales tax by 1 percentage point. He also wants to expand the sales tax to cover more services.

The governor said Tuesday that the goal of the town hall is to educate the public about his plan, which he says will lower Mainers’ overall tax burden by $300 million by 2019.
