SUMNER — Selectmen said at Tuesday’s meeting they will review bids for the Twin Bridge project on Tuell Hill Road at their Feb. 24 meeting.

At the annual town meeting in August 2014, voters were told that Twin Bridge, which carries vehicles over the West Branch Nezinscot River on Tuell Hill Road, is not state-approved because it’s one lane and the guardrails are not in good condition.

The road budget, which includes summer maintenance, is $160,000,  Selectwoman Mary Ann Haxton said, and can’t fund the entire cost of the project. The plan is to bond $200,000 for it.

Money for the Redding Road culvert project is not included in the proposed bond. The badly corroded culvert is too small, causing a dangerous situation for cars.

Town Clerk Susan Runes said Thursday that selectmen received notification Monday from their engineering firm that bids had gone out for both projects. The board is awaiting word on whether the bids can be separated to get a true picture of the bridge project costs.

Runes said she must receive firm bids by the beginning of March to meet the bank bond deadline.

In other news from the meeting, the board said the salt budget has been spent for the winter. They agreed to monitor the situation for the next month and determine when a special town meeting will be needed to approve more money.
