AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine’s free fishing weekend might be reserved for only the heartiest of souls.

The state Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is reminding residents that any person may fish for free without a license on Saturday and Sunday. Those are days when the state could see more snow and high winds as an already brutal winter rages on.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard watch from Cape Cod to coastal Maine. The storm could bring a foot or more of snow to some areas, with strong wind gusts and the potential for coastal flooding. The snow is expected to begin falling Saturday and last into Sunday.

The free fishing weekend does not apply to residents who have had their license suspended or revoked. Normal rules and regulations apply.
