1935 – 2015
ANDOVER — Hanson A. “Hank” Morton Sr., 79, of Andover, died peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Sunday, Feb. 15.
He was born on Oct. 31, 1935, in Andover to Eldwin and Dora (Hutchins) Morton. He attended Andover schools through the 11th grade. Hank worked at Andover Wood Products all his life except when he was drafted into the U.S. Army on Sept. 12, 1958. He completed basic training at Fort Dix, N.J., then went on to Fort Sam Houston in Texas, where he trained as a medical specialist. He worked in the AMEDS Co. at Brooke General Hospital until he was honorably discharged on Sept. 9, 1960.
Hank married Elaine Jodrey on March 29, 1958, in Andover. Together they celebrated 56 years of marriage. They made their home in Andover where they raised nine children.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, riding his four-wheeler and going for Sunday rides. When the kids were young, he often took them to camp. He loved to watch the hummingbirds and other animals from his favorite spot on the front porch. He instilled love of nature in all his children. He loved country music.
Hank is survived by his wife, Elaine; three sons, Hanson Jr., John and Robert and companion, Lynda Airhart, all of Andover; six daughters, Dorothy Swan and companion, Mike Hart, of Bethel, Cheryl Rockwood and husband, Rick, of Hanover, Pamela Chartier and husband, Daniel, Paula Miceli and husband, Anthony, Debra Gauvin and husband, Rick, all of Rumford, and Betsy Morton of Andover. His grandchildren, Rebecca Morton Gren, Kassie Cox, Rebecca and Douglas Swan and companion, Bethany Danforth, Marissa and Kyle Gauvin, Kayla, Joseph, Christopher and Bryan Morton, Corbin Salway, Alan and Ryan Theriault; and great-grandson, Grady Swan, who will arrive any day; two brothers, Owen and Wayne Morton of Andover; and a sister, Priscilla Hodgkins of Roxbury. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, “Catdog.”
He was predeceased by his parents, Eldwin and Dora Morton; and brothers, George, Otis and Hugh Morton.
