Mt. Blue placed four skiers in the top 16 to grab a 40-73 lead over Greely in the slalom event. Falmouth took control, claiming two of the top three finishing spots for a comfortable 39-77 advantage over Edward Little.

With three skiers already down the hill, Mt. Blue was looking at a high finish when Dylan Roberts, who was holding onto a top spot after his first run, crashed on the course. A quick call to the top of the mountain alerted the remaining Cougars of the need to have another skier successfully complete their second run in order to post a high team score.

“Dylan was having a good day when he went down,” Mt. Blue coach Mark Cyr said. “I called up to the top to let them know what was going on.”

Sophomore Miles Pelletier answered the call for the Cougars, laying down an exceptional second run to finish 16th, enough to help Mt. Blue feature a strong team effort.

“We had three skiers in the barn and Miles came through under pressure,” Cyr said. “Our depth and strength came through again today.”

Kyle Farrington topped the Cougars’ effort in second place behind winner Thomas Lesniak, of Falmouth. Anthony Franchetti grabbed 10th and Mitchell Haines 12th to complete the Mt. Blue scoring. Lesniak blistered the course with a two-run combined time of 1:13.72.

“The snow and the course were in great condition, technically you had to ski the pitch smart but once you got past there you could really go,” Farrington said. “As a team we were skiing more under control today, trying hard to win the Alpine championship. We’ve set a good tone with a lot of good skiers finishing high in the standings.”

Chris Burns of Oxford Hills fashioned a fourth-place finish with two sub-40-second runs.

Krysia Lesniak, of Falmouth, answered the call for the Yachtsmen, taking first place in 1:18.97, with Edward Little’s Brooke Lever close behind in second. Lever posted one of her strongest days of the winter campaign to anchor an outstanding day for the Red Eddies.

“I felt good, I felt confident going down the course and having fun with it,” Lever said. “I think I had two solid runs, my edges were sharp and I was right on the gates.”

Edward Little’s Victoria Beliveau (7th) and Oxford Hills Miranda Murphy (9th) also managed top ten finishes in the slalom event. Leavitt’s Abbie Gaudette paced the Hornets, crossing the finish line in 11th.

Class A teams return to Mt. Abram on Wednesday to wrap up Alpine championship races, competing in the giant slalom, starting at 9 a.m.
