1948 – 2015

LEWISTON — Doris Jean Kelly Gamble, 66, of Lewiston, passed away suddenly at her home on Monday, Feb. 9, to her new Heavenly home, with her family celebrating her arrival.

Doris was born in Sweet Water, Ala., on Sept. 29, 1948, to the Rev. George R. Washington and Olaree Richardson. She attended Merengo High School and resided in Mobile, Ala., for many years.

Doris was a hard worker and held many customer service jobs over the years. Her last employment was at the Auburn Walmart bakery department.

Doris had the ability to bring people together. Busy at work in her kitchen, she filled pots and pans with Southern down home cooking. She was a consummate cook and people would eagerly await the chance to taste her fine soul food cuisine. On Sunday afternoons, her home was a place where family and friends would gather for a good time. Her love of cooking was her secret ingredient.

Her “tell it like it is” and words of wisdom rang strong in our hearts. She loved The Temptations and blues and Gospel music.

She was predeceased by her parents and son, Alfred Jermaine Kelly.

She will be sorely missed by those who loved her.

The family would like to thank the Dialysis Center of Lewiston for their many years of great care and service.
