The bid of Wiley Construction Co. of Scarborough, the low bidder at $447,894 for construction of the Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn, was approved Wednesday by the Governor’s Executive Council for acceptance. Wiley was the lowest of nine bidders on the project. Funds for the school were appropriated by the 101st Maine Legislature and approved in a state-wide referendum. The action by the Executive Council allows William T. Logan Jr., Maine’s education commissioner, to sign the contract with the Scarborough firm for construction of the new school buildings on the site of the former Auburn City Farm. At present the vocational school is operating in temporary quarters in the former Lewiston Buick Building. Classes started there last September. The new buildings for the school were designed by Auburn architect Deane M. Woodward.
