1929 – 2015
AUGUSTA — Elaine M. Tufts, 85, of Readfield, died Monday, Feb. 23, at the Alfond Center for Health, Augusta, following a brief illness.
She was born in Biddeford on April 18, 1929, the daughter of the late V. Burton Elaine was a graduate of Cony High School, Class of 1946, and earned her RN at Central Maine General Hospital in 1951.
She pursued her nursing career working at Central Maine General and later at the Togus VA Medical Center.
In 1953, she married her husband of 61 years, Everett Tufts.
In 1957, they moved to Connecticut, where she worked for the Travelers Insurance Co. and later for a private physician in Groton, Conn.
She enjoyed doing all types of medical work and was an avid reader.
Elaine was predeceased by her two brothers, Robert and Francis McLaughlin.
She is survived by her husband, Everett V. Tufts of Readfield; her daughter, Sandra Nanalis and her husband, Fortune, of Ventura, Calif.; two grandchildren, Catherine and Dominic Nanalis; as well as several nieces and nephews.
