AUBURN — The School Committee voted 4-0 Wednesday night to continue contracts with administrators.

Bonnie Hayes, who was acting as chairwoman in Tom Kendall’s absence, explained that the vote was required by state law. If in the upcoming budget talks positions need to be eliminated, that can be done, she said.

Christopher Langis, who joined the committee in the fall after the administrative labor contract was approved, said, “Obviously, we need these positions.”

But he added that in the private sector “wages are stagnant” and tough economic times continue. If he had been on the committee when the contract was approved, he would have voted to freeze wages, he said.

The vote Wednesday night did not deal with wages, it merely continued employment, Assistant Superintendent Michelle McClellan said.

Voting to continue the contracts were Hayes, Langis, Laurie Tannenbaum and Peter Letourneau.

Annual salaries for administrators are: Edward Little High School Principal Jimmy Miller, $100,188; ELHS Assistant Principals Sarah Deluca and Scott Annear, $72,663; and athletic director Dan Deshaies, $78,572.

Also, Auburn Middle School Principal Celena Ranger, $77,351; middle school dean Kevin Shaw, $80,102; East Auburn School Principal Sue Dorris, $68,036; Walton Elementary School Principal Michael Davis, $81,218; Sherwood Heights Principal Kim Taylor, $77,351; and Fairview Elementary School Assistant Principal Andrew Bard, $59,812.

In other business, Hayes said the School Department is on target with both revenue and spending.

The School Committee will begin its work on the 2015-16 budget at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Auburn Hall.

During a Monday meeting with School Committee members and city councilors, several councilors said they favored low property taxes and minimal increases and would only support a city and school budget that stayed under a 1.8 percent increase.
