I think Sen. Eric Brakey’s bill making the wearing of seat belts optional is fine, as long as I have the option of not having to pay for the extended rehabilitation he or others will need when they are involved in a crash without seatbelts on.

After all, if people have the choice to wear or not, shouldn’t I also be afforded the choice of not paying for someone else’s poor choices, since health care costs are ultimately shared by all?

Seat belt wearing, gun carrying, the state dog — what’s next? Are these really the most important issues facing Maine today?

What happened to jobs and the economy?

I guess you get what you vote for.
