WEST PARIS — At last check we have gained two hours and 11 minutes of daylight. And, as we gain daylight and a determined advance toward spring, we can also gain a deeper understanding of faith, spirituality and what it means to be human in a sometimes chaotic world.
Join members at the First Universalist Church of West Paris for a Sunday worship service where participants can sort it out through the varied and thought-provoking worship services. Services are provided by a variety of guest speakers and the worship service committee at 9 a.m. followed with refreshments.
March 8, “Dis-Ease: A Coming Out,” led by guest speaker David Sturtevant who will perform selections from a longer show he has written. “It’s a show about my experiences following my diagnosis of bipolar disorder 15 years ago. It’s light and dark, it’s heavy and uplifting, it’s serious and funny.”
March 15, “Transformation vs. Acceptance.” The inequities we experience in our society today call out for transformation — of ourselves and of our social institutions. Yet sometimes only acceptance of adversity can get us through. This service will explore how we, together, can travel the spiritual journey from acceptance to transformation. The service is led by The Rev. Fayre Stephenson.
March 22, “Putting Back the Pieces,” led by Joan Beal, who is a member of the Norway UU church and heads its religious education program.
March 23, Goodwill Fellowship Meeting at the church at 1 p.m. Potluck and business meeting.
March 29, “Kitchen Table Wisdom,” based on a poem titled, “Perhaps the World Ends Here” by Jodi Harjo. The service is led by The Rev. Sue Gabrielson who has been the minister for the Sanford Unitarian Universalist Church since 2003. She also is a consulting minister for the Saco UU church and the executive director of the Maine Council of Churches.
