I found the guest column by Stanley Tetenman, “Governor’s tax proposal would shift the burden” (March 8), thoughtful and enlightening.

I think his opening paragraph sums up the major problem with the governor’s plan: “Gov. Paul LePage’s tax proposal will shift many costs to municipalities, likely causing significant property tax increases. It will shift more tax burden to lower and middle income taxpayers while giving disproportionate benefits to high income earners.”

I’m a firm believer in: “If it isn’t broke — don’t fix it.” LePage’s proposed “fixes” are illogical and dangerous.

Logical and minor adjustments are at times needed to make the tax burden as fair as possible and to provide the necessary funds to run the state efficiently.

LePage’s plan would throw the whole tax system out of whack with absolutely no guarantee of success.

I pray it is defeated by the Legislature.
