MEXICO — A Regional School Unit 10 bus and a car collided Wednesday at Route 17 and Harlow Hill Road, damaging both vehicles.

The six Dirigo Middle School students on the bus and their driver, David Briggs, 56, of Byron, were not injured, Dean Milligan, Med-Care Ambulance director of operations, said.

Mexico police officer Rob Drouin identified the driver of the 1998 Nissan as Jacqueline Pettegrow, 54, of Mexico. She complained of back pain but declined transport to Rumford Hospital, he said.

Drouin said Briggs was exiting Harlow Hill Road onto Route 17 as Pettegrow was turning from Route 17 onto Harlow Hill Road and blaring her car horn.

“He just kept coming right at me and I just kept laying on the horn,” Pettegrow said.

The front license plate on the bus was damaged, while the rear quarter panel and gas tank cover on the Nissan were crushed and the corner of the rear bumper broken.

Parents picked up the students.
