TURNER — MSAD No. 52 Adult and Community Education’s Winter/Spring schedule continues with a variety of classes.
Week of March 23
Beyond the Point and Shoot Camera: Learn the basic and advanced controls of a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera with interchangeable lenses. Shooting modes, auto P.S.A. and manual will be covered, along with setting white balance and continuous shooting. Students need a DSLR camera and its manual.
Crochet Wire Jewelry: Learn to use crochet stitches in a new way. Using wire and high quality glass beads, construct a necklace or bracelet simply by crocheting. No prior experience is necessary. Choose from a variety of colorful beads to accent your stunning jewelry. Workshop fee includes all materials to make one necklace or bracelet.
MSAD 52 Substitute Training: This course is one step in the substitute teacher application process for the district. Learn about school expectations, teacher’s lesson plans and assertive discipline. A high school diploma is required, college degree preferred.
Vinyasa Yoga: All levels Vinyasa meets you where you are in your practice, from beginner to more seasoned student. Anchored in the foundation or breathing and alignment, Vinyasa incorporates elements of Tai Chi, Dance Yoga and Shiva Rea’s Vinyasa Flow Yoga.
I’m Beginning to Stay Home Alone — Greene: This 2-session class introduces eight- to 11-year-olds safety issues they could encounter as they begin to stay home alone for short periods of time. Hands-on activities and discussions are used to learn concepts, including what to do it they feel sick or scared, how to contact a parent and what they are allowed to do when home alone. Students take home an activity booklet with parent notes.
Week of March 30
Me oh My — Love That Pie: If you have suffered through pastry mishaps or runny pie filling, this is for you. In one evening, you will make a standard two-crust pie and a fruit tart that will get rave reviews. Hands-on time, recipes, tips and liberal tasting opportunities. Bring a rolling pin, plastic bag, apron and rolling mat.
Bow Hunter Safety: Provides a wealth of knowledge regarding equipment, proper hunting methods, responsibilities, and general safety. Some classes will have outdoor exercises.
Sales Agent Course in Real Estate: If you have thought about a career in real estate, sign up for this class. The Maine Real Estate Commission has approved this course as meeting all of the education requirements necessary to obtain a Sales Agent license in Maine. After successful completion, the student must pass a standardized state test prior to applying for their state Sales Agent license.
Maine Driving Dynamics: Improve your defensive driving awareness and abilities. Take part in discussions of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitude and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine’s highways. Those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record.
ATV Safety Education: Learn how to properly operate and maintain an ATV. Laws, responsibilities and personal safety will also be covered. Passage of a final exam is required. Students younger than 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
