HEBRON — Voters will be asked to fund a new town garage, give raises to selectmen and approve a comprehensive plan at the annual town meeting Saturday, March 21.
The meeting opens at 10 a.m. at Hebron Station School to act on the 65-article warrant.
The proposed budget is $815,126, or about 8 percent more than this fiscal year, Board of Selectmen Chairman Richard Deans said.
It does not include the Oxford County assessment or the School Administrative District 17 assessment.
Selectmen are seeking authorization to bond up to $175,000 to build a public works garage next to the one on Hebron Station Road. Selectmen and the Budget Committee recommend approval.
Deans said the town needs the garage, in part, because the overhead door on the existing one can’t accommodate some equipment. The current garage could be used for storage, he said.
Voters will be asked to increase the salary of the chairman of the Board of Selectmen from $10,000 to $12,000, and for other members from $5,000 to $6,000.
Also, $15,000 is requested from the General Fund to complete the purchase of Packard Field and the section of Depot Circle, both on Hebron Station Road. The town previously authorized selectmen to use the $10,000 Gibson Grant for the purchase.
The comprehensive plan defines the growth strategy for the next 10 years. Officials have stressed the plan does not call for zoning; it is simply a vision for future land use.
Voters will be asked to appropriate $45,000 for the Fire Department; $10,000 for the Fire Department Reserve Account for a new firetruck; $125,000 for maintenance of equipment; $70,000 for summer roads; $120,000 for winter roads; and $80,000 for the transfer station.
The Budget Committee recommends $6,767 for social service agencies. They include: SeniorsPlus, $724 requested, $500 recommended; Tri-County Mental Health Services, $950 requested, $878 recommended; and Responsible Pet Care of Oxford Hills, $850 requested, $100 recommended. The Budget Committee made no recommendation on a $100 request from Maine Public Broadcasting.
The terms of Selectman James Reid, Moody Library trustee Janette Packard and SAD 17 director Lewis Williams and the road commissioner expire at the meeting.
