1917 – 2015
VENICE, Fla.—Roy F. Stevens, 97, of Venice, Fla., passed away Friday, March 13.
Roy was born Dec. 2, 1917, in Auburn, to Florence (Burns) and Roy Stevens.
As a young man, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served our country in World War II in the Army and Army Air Corps.
Roy worked as a supervisor with the Auburn Highway Department in Auburn, and retired after many years there. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and NFL Giants fan. He was also a faithful spectator at Venice High School baseball games for many years.
Roy and his wife, Hazel, took pleasure in traveling in their motor home. In his spare time, Roy enjoyed woodworking, and he was also very active in Amvets Post 6 in New Gloucester.
Survivors include two children, Judy Stevens Carver (husband, Ronald) of Venice, Fla., and Jeff C. Stevens (wife, Jeannine), of Lewiston; four stepchildren, Wesley R. Rogers (wife, Geraldine) of Gray, Stephen G. Rogers of Homestead, Fla., Kathleen Rogers Burden (husband, Wendell) of Vassar, Kan., and Elaine Rogers Higgins (husband, Basil) of Freedom; two brothers, George Stevens of Auburn and Eugene Stevens of Lewiston; a sister, Rosemarie Stevens Coffin of Venice, Fla.; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Stevens, in 2007; his brothers, Calvert and Bradford; and his sisters, Catherine “Sister Mary Frances,” Elizabeth Sylvester, Ada Jordan and Elinor Russell.
