Poetry, Civil War topic in Rumford
RUMFORD — On March 26, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., UMaine Farmington faculty and poet Doug Rawlings will lead a discussion of Civil War poems, among them Ambrose Bierce’s “Hesitating Veteran” and Ethel Lynn Beers’ “All Quiet Along the Potomac.”
The special 4th Thursday Poetry event is part of the Maine in the Civil War project organized by RSU 10, the Rumford Historical Society and the Rumford Library.
Poems selected for reading and discussion are available in advance of March 26 at the Rumford Library.

Sweet Bingo at Mountain Valley Middle
MEXICO — Mountain Valley Middle School will host a Sweet Bingo night on Friday, April 3, to raise money for the seventh-grade Bryant Pond field trip. All seventh-graders will be taking part in this adventure in May.
The Sweet Bingo will start at 5:30 p.m. and continue until sweets run out. The price to get in is $3 for an evening of bingo. For each round of bingo, participants will have the opportunity to win a cake, pie or other sweet treat.
Country Jam at Rumford Snowshoe Club
RUMFORD — A public Country Jam night will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. every Saturday night starting April 4 at the Snowshoe Club on Waldo Street.
Scrapbooking/Crafting Day at Hope Assoc.
RUMFORD — Hope Association Scrapbooking/Crafting Day will be held from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 18.
