1950 – 2015
LEWISTON — Robert E. “Bob” Metcalf, 65, of Jay, died early Sunday, March 22, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Robert was born Jan. 3, 1950, a son of Paul and Madeline (Mason) Metcalf. He was raised on the family farm in North Jay with his four siblings. He graduated from Jay High School in 1968 and went on to begin his career at International Paper. He worked at International Paper (now Verso) for 47 years, retiring just one mere month ago this February.
Bob was a hard-working man who had an exceptional sense of humor. He loved to tell stories and make others laugh with his jokes. He was a true “Mainer” and enjoyed hunting, fishing and being in the great outdoors. Bob had an enormous heart and reached the lives of many through his years at the paper mill. He will certainly be missed by all.
He is survived by his companion, Marion “Pat” Shank of Jay; son, Adam Metcalf and his wife, Anna, of New Jersey; daughter, Mary Metcalf, of Boston; step-daughter, Stacey Dingus and her husband, Jesse, of North Jay; siblings, Paula Olesen and her husband, Ron, of Florida, Bonnie Mardosa and her fiancé, Marty Thorne, of Jay, David Metcalf and his wife, Delores “Dee,” of Arizona, and Dale Metcalf and his fiancé, Marti Gans of Arizona; and grandchildren, Jesse, Paul, Charles and Dann.
He was predeceased by a previous companion, Sandy Cochoran; and best friend, Richard “Hunky” Wilson.
