RANGELEY — Jack E. Ross, 85, of Rangeley, died peacefully in the comfort of his home, Saturday, March 21.
Jack was born on June 21, 1929, a son of Thomas and Beatrice (Raymond) Ross. Upon graduating from Rangeley High School, Jack met his future wife, Marian Crocker, at a dance in Madrid; they were married Nov. 25, 1949.
Jack joined the United States Air Force in 1951 and served his country during the Korean War, working as a mechanic on airplanes. Upon his discharge from the military, he started working as a truck driver for DC Morton, a logging company, before starting his career driving trucks with Dead River Oil Co. He retired from Dead River in 1997.
Appropriately, he was a “Jack” of all trades and had many talents and hobbies including gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a fun-loving man who enjoyed puzzle games, traveling, and going to bluegrass music festivals. A proud Rangeley native, he particularly enjoyed watching the Lady Lakers basketball games. He was a storyteller who loved his family dearly.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Bryant and her husband, Doug, of Bath; companion, Esther Onstott; daughter-in-law, Jeanna Ross of Brunswick; siblings, Elizabeth Quimby and Kathleen Stewart, both of Rangeley; grandchildren, Jack Ross II and his wife, Lisa, of Topsham, Karen Shaunesey and her husband, Shawn, of Farmington, Jessica Allard and her husband, Rodney, of Topsham, Jenny Springer and her husband, Erland, of Lisbon Falls, and Danny Bryant and his wife, Betsy, of Bath; great-grandchildren, Daniel Winters and his wife, Hannah, Austin Winters, Haylee Hassellbacher, Joshua Winters, Brittany Berry, Dereck Ross, Broklynn Winters, Tyler Campbell, Kimberly Coffin, Deven Ross, Ethan Winters, Kaslyne Campbell, Morgann Allard, Hope Allard, Danielle Bryant, Katelyn Ross, Teekin Campbell and Landen Springer; one great-great-granddaughter, Avonlea Winters; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marian Ross, in 1999; and his son, Jon Ross, in 2006.
