The New Lewiston Theatre under an entirely new management and with a star stock company appearing in the latest New York and Boston successes will be reopened on Monday night, April 6th, when the Emerson players, as the company will be known, will present that famous dramatic success, “Bought and Paid For,” which had a remarkable run of over one solid year at the playhouse in New York City and which broke records for long engagements in Boston last season. A new epoch in the theatrical history of Lewiston will be opened by the Emerson Players, which is one of the finest stock companies in New England, and the players and productions that have been secured will be of surpassing excellence.
50 years ago, 1965
Stockholders of the West Point Manufacturing Co. and the Pepperell Manufacturing Co. today approved a merger of the two companies at a special meeting held at West Point. Georgia. The merger was approved by substantially more than two-thirds of the stockholders. Less than two percent were opposed to the proposal. According to information received from the meeting, the name of the surviving corporation will be West Point Pepperell, Inc. The effective date of the merger is Monday March 29, 1965 at 10 a.m. and an organizational meeting of the Board of Directors of the merged company is scheduled to be held that day in Atlanta, Ga. In Maine, Pepperell operates two large plants, one located in Lewiston and the other in Biddeford.

Greene dump manager Buster Nickerson told selectmen Monday that people have been dumping their unwanted items outside the landfill gates and making a mess of the area. Town Manager Joe Tarazewich said he has contacted some people who have been identified by certain items found in the trash. If this continues, he said, warrants will be issued against offenders.
