BETHEL — A retired CIA officer from Brunswick will speak Tuesday and Wednesday, March 31 and April 1, sponsored by the Western Mountains Senior College.

Nancy Davis, president of the Western Mountains Senior College, said the first talk will be for Down Home Maine, which feature Maine people who have had interesting experiences.

Brunswick resident Ed Knox, a retired CIA officer of 26 years and a former history professor at Boston College, will present “Modern Mideast: Power and Politics.” It will explore the realities of power in the modern Mideast from geographic, historic and cultural perspectives, and “probe the issue of why we are on a current losing streak militarily,” according to a press release.

The talk will be held at 4:30 p.m. in McLaughlin Auditorium at Gould Academy.

“I’m good friends with Ed, and he’s a fascinating person,” Davis said. “I think he’s going to put on a good program. People are in for a treat.”

Knox will speak from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. April 1 at the Bethel Inn Library as part of the Senior College’s Brown Bag Lunch Discussion. His talk will focus on mistrust and fear in American society.

Both events are free and open to the public.
