“Something that should he called to the attention of the Lewiston board of health is the presence of the garbage and refuse teams that come in from farms in the suburbs to collect waste. Final plans for the trip by the Lewiston High School band to the New York World’s Fair were about completed. The steering committee emphasized that wherever the students go in New York they must be accompanied by a chaperon, that no members of the band will be permitted to go off alone or in small groups without an adult. The itinerary includes trips to Rockefeller Center, the United Nations building, Radio City, museums, a baseball game, and Carnegie Hall. The students also will be given ample opportunity to visit the exhibitions at the World’s Fair. The feature of the trip is the band concert to be given at the Tiparillo Band Pavilion at 1:15 p.m. Friday, April 23. The committee is obtaining tickets for the band members to also take in three television shows.

Now, everyone who was at the Central Maine Civic Center on Friday night knows why Nelson Rodriguez was able to fight the great Antonio Esparragoza to a draw. To those 3,300 fans, at least, Rodriguez is no longer a mystery. But Joey Gamache Jr. remains undefeated (19-0), and he remains a champion. Gamache, in by far his stiffest test as a professional, earned a unanimous 12-round decision over Rodriguez (19-6-2) to retain his IBF-Intercontinental junior lightweight crown. The result has to remove any doubt, if there ever was any, that Gamache is ready to take on anyone in the world in his weight class.
