ROME — Pine Tree Camp, summer camp for children and adults with disabilities, is accepting applications for the summer season.

To help parents and caregivers decide if Pine Tree Camp may be a good fit for their loved one, an open house and information session will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9.

Applications to attend camp, as well as a sign-up form for the open house, can be found at www.pinetreesociety.org.

Since 1945, Pine Tree Camp has been providing a traditional summer camp experience to Maine people with disabilities. The campus is fully adapted to meet the special needs of campers who have a wide range of physical and/or developmental disabilities.

“Taking the leap and sending a child to overnight camp is a big decision for any parent,” said Camp Director Dawn Willard-Robinson. “When you have a child with a disability, that decision is even harder. By giving families an opportunity to see and explore camp firsthand, we can help take away some of the worry.”

The open house will explore all that Pine Tree Camp has to offer including:

• A 285-acre accessible campus on North Pond in the Belgrade Lakes region.

• A safe, barrier-free environment that allows all campers, regardless of their ability level, to participate in outdoor activities like swimming, hiking, boating and fishing.

• Fully accessible facilities including three new camper cabins.

• Opportunities for campers to make lifelong friends with peers who understand the daily challenges of living with a disability.

• Educational learning experiences for campers to grow and challenge themselves.

• Respite for parents and other caregivers.

Pine Tree Camp offers residential and day camp opportunities. Campers are enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to donors statewide, families pay only what they can afford of the tuition. For more information, call 443-3341 or visit www.pinetreesociety.org.
