LISBON — Sixty Lisbon High School freshmen will participate in building wind turbines and solar cars in a green technologies program Tuesday, April 14, at the school.
It’s part of the FUSE program, which invites students to explore hands-on challenges inspired by real-world design practices involving science, technology, engineering and mathematics. FUSE was developed by researchers and educators in the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University. Siemens has partnered with Northwestern and created classes for students in grades kindergarten to 12.
Students work in teams of five at their own pace to complete the FUSE challenges. Facilitators are science teachers Rita Newell and Anne Wallace.
Siemens is supporting the development of FUSE challenges in Lisbon and Gardiner schools as part of its Green Footprint program.
