A petition calling for repeal of Lewiston’s urban renewal adoption and dissolution of the Lewiston Urban Renewal Authority was filed Friday as Ward Five Alderman Frank J. Bussiere led a group of 15 voters to the Lewiston city clerk’s office to sign the necessary documents. This action, taken under Lewiston’s ordinances, requires City Clerk Lucien Lebel to prepare a petition for a referendum on the question and make it available for those who wish to sign it at his office for the next 60 days. “I want the people to vote on this,” Bussiere declared. “I don’t want five aldermen to decide this for 40,000 people.”

Seven school children from the Soviet Union will study in Poland Community School classrooms for one month in late spring, under an arrangement which was announced Friday by Principal Donald McGlauflin. Five girls and two boys will come here from Alma-Ata, in the Republic of Kazakstan, about 2,000 miles southeast of Moscow, arriving in the United States, May 18. Each of the visitors will stay with a Poland family which includes a pupil of about the same age. The Soviets, from 11 to 13 years of age, presumably speak or understand a little English. The host students meanwhile are attempting to learn rudimentary Russian from a picture dictionary which has been stocked in the school library.
