AUGUSTA ­– Maine employers of National Guard and Reserve employees have been nominated for the 2015 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.

The award is the highest recognition given by the Department of Defense to employers for their support of National Guard and Reserve members. 

Up to 15 employers will be selected for this year’s award and honored at the Pentagon in an official ceremony in August.

Nominations for the award must come from a guard or reserve member who is employed by the organization they are nominating or from a family member.

Winners will be announced in late June. Updates and a complete list of the 2,960 nominees can be found at www.freedomaward.mil.

The nominations from Maine include: Maine State Police, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, Bath Iron Works, Maine Savings Federal Credit Union, Redington-Fairview General Hospital, Advance Technology Inc., Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, General Electric Energy, Granite Bay Care Inc., Portland Water District, New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc., Mountain LTD, On Target Utility Services, Hampden Electrical, BREX Corporation, Peavey Manufacturing Company, Paris Public Library and Dirigo Management Company.
