AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer “Supervising People: the Essential Skills for Leaders,” on five Thursdays, May 7 to June 4. Each class will meet from 9 a.m. to noon.

This 15-hour program is designed to help managers, supervisors and team leaders identify communication barriers and performance issues and will provide tools to address difficult employees. Participants will to learn how to tackle difficult issues and improve team productivity. Topics include communication, performance coaching, supervision, team-building, and handling difficult employees.

The course is led by Marylin Newell, Ph.D., a longtime educator with experience as an academic dean, campus director and college president. She holds a master’s degree in adult education from the University of Southern Maine and a Ph.D. in management and organization from Capella University. She is the founder and president of Maine Seminars, a professional development company that specializes in transformational coaching, counseling and training.

The noncredit course is open to anyone interested in learning effective supervision techniques. Registration is open and space is limited. The cost is $299 and includes all materials, including two workbooks participants will keep.
