YARMOUTH — Dorothy Lifshitz passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, at Bay Square at Yarmouth at the age of 94.
Dorothy was born in Lewiston, the eldest child of Ethel and Joseph Lifshitz. She lived in Lewiston most of her life and worked in her father’s car dealership, Advance Auto Sales in Auburn.
While she struggled with periodic depression, she had her pleasures, such as visiting her sister, Sylvia, in New York City, lunch at the Nanking Restaurant in Lewiston with her nephew, Jonathan, and visits with her eight nieces and nephews and their children. She was an avid correspondent and never forgot a birthday, loved her daily walks in Lewiston and had a formidable recall of dates of events, going back 75 years. She was also an enthusiastic jazz devotee.
In her last decade, while living in assisted living facilities in Auburn and Yarmouth, Dorothy blossomed into a sociable and loving soul who cherished those around her and won their hearts. Her family appreciated that this joy came to her late in life.
Dorothy is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jeff, Donald, David and Larry Lee; and Beth, Adam, Cathy and Jonathan Lee.
She is predeceased by her younger siblings, Sylvia, Harold and Shepard Lee.
We say goodbye to Dorothy, knowing that she found happiness being with others — and they with her. We will miss her.
