LEWISTON — Community members are invited to participate in a French sing-along session at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17, at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College.
Les Troubadours will lead attendees in singing a selection of local Franco favorites such as “Les Fraises et Les Framboises” and “Belle Rose du Printemps.” Pianist Jeannette Gregoire will provide accompaniment.
“Whether they are Franco or not, anyone who likes music is welcome to come join the fun” says Aliette Couturier, a regular Troubadour. “Song books are provided so that even those who are not familiar with the songs or less-than-fluent in French can easily follow along. And as a treat, this month’s program will include a few lively French-Canadian jigs-&-reels performed by some young local fiddlers,” adds Couturier.
Organized in 2010 by the Maine Folque Co-op in collaboration with USMLAC’s Franco-American Collection, the monthly series of song sessions takes place from September through June, usually in Room 170 at the college.
Admission is free to all. More information is available by calling Jacynthe Jacques at 576-4109.
USMLAC is located at 51 Westminster St., Lewiston.
