BETHEL – The Board of Selectmen voted Monday to allow a group to put up green signs and ribbons throughout the Bethel Common in recognition of Lyme Disease Awareness month.

Town Manager Christine Landes said the group also asked for permission to put green bulbs in the lights outside the Town Office building.

“Their request was similar to what they asked for last year,” Landes said. “They’re going to put up some signs and ribbons throughout the town, including the Bethel Common.”

The board also voted to approve placing bicycle signs on North Road and Intervale Road warning drivers to give bikers the required 3 feet of clearance when passing them.

Selectmen also voted to approve an article for the annual town meeting warrant on on whether to continue adding fluoride to the town water suppl.

Bethel business owner Sarah Lane, who is not a resident of the town, previously asked selectmen to call a town vote. She said there is evidence fluoride is linked to brain damage.
