PARIS — The drama class at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School (OHCHS) will hold its third annual Murder Mystery Theater event on Friday, April 17, at 6 p.m. This year’s performance is called “Murder at the Banquet.”  Murder mystery involves a play during which the guests work to solve the mystery of who killed whom. Usually they do this while they eat a meal. This year, instead of dinner, dessert will be served.

“It’s fun when the character interacts with the audience while the audience tries to solve the mystery,” says art and drama teacher Cyndi Kugell.

As the director of the event, Kugell has successfully put on a murder mystery play for the last three years. The first year, proceeds from the show were donated to the school library. Last year the show “Café Murder” benefitted 2013 Project Graduation. This year’s profits will go to the OHCHS theater program.

In previous years, the play held near the gymnasium was catered by the culinary program. This is the first year the drama class is using the stage to perform. This gives them the luxury of music and sound effects.

This years’ cast of characters includes an old British lady, a private investigator, a sheriff and some waiters. There will be a break during the show when the audience is asked to join the cast for dessert. Paper and pencil are provided at each table. There is also a ballot box. The people at each table work together to try and sort out the clues provided. Whatever cast members are still alive visit each table and answer the specific set of questions the audience has been given ahead of time. Then the audience decides who they think the killer(s) are.

Life skills, which is a day long program for disabled high school students, will provide hot fudge brownie sundaes for the event. Tickets are $10 dollars provided before the show.
