FARMINGTON — University of Maine at Farmington Campus police are looking for a male who physically assaulted a UMF student walking back to her residence hall at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
The incident occurred near the back patio of the university’s Education Center, which is adjacent to High and Lincoln streets, UMF police Chief Brock Caton said Wednesday.
The student, who was on campus property, had taken a short-cut behind the building to get back to her residence hall. She received minor injuries but did not receive medical attention, he said.
The assailant was described as being a white male of medium build and approximately 5-foot, 7 inches to 5-foot, 9 inches tall and wearing a baseball cap backwards, Caton said.
Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact the UMF officer on duty at 778-7400.
Caton encourages students who are walking throughout the community at night, to ensure they are walking with another person and to avoid areas without street lights and taking shortcuts, and to stay on the main roads.
If it is an emergency situation, people should call 911 immediately, he said.
