AUBURN — The Walkabouts of Maine was created in April 2010 by two women who wanted to walk for health and enjoyment. It has not missed a weekly walk in five years.

After less than a year, the group grew to 18 members, all retirees.

The group meets every Tuesday morning, rain or shine, and carpools to an area. When the weather gets cold, members go snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. This summer, they hope to add kayaking to their list of activities.

When planning an excursion, the group often includes museums, historical tours and art exhibits. Their Tuesday activities always include yoga and lunch at a restaurant. They are known to stop at ice cream parlors for dessert.
