LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen on Tuesday directed the Planning Board to continue work on a revised comprehensive plan rather than appoint a special committee.

“I think the Planning Board should do the planning. I don’t believe in a lot of committees,” Board of Selectmen Chairwoman Louise Chabot said. “I would like to see some progress.”

Planning Board member Robin Beck said the proposed comprehensive plan is a rewrite.

“We haven’t addressed what we want. We need the opinions of other groups,” she said.

Darryl Brown, also on the Planning Board, said the group plans to hold public hearings. He also said the town’s focus may very well be on rails, river and roads.

Code Enforcement Officer James Butler, and the Planning Board has been working on a revision of the document for several months. The plan originally was to present the document to the public in June, but it will not happen.

Planning Board member Merry Carver said the board surveyed residents on what they want but responses have not been reviewed.

Planning Board member Melissa Carter said the board had not met with a representative from the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments.

“It would have been nice to have that input,” she said.

Brown said the Planning Board will conduct interviews and hold public hearings.

“We’d welcome the opportunity for the public (to provide input),” he said.

Beck said the Planning Board has not received the necessary information to bring it to the public.

The Planning Board generally meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.

In other matters, selectmen said the July special town meeting warrant will have an article asking if residents want to accept the former high and middle schools.

Chabot said if the town accepts them, any money from the sale would come to the town, not Regional School Unit 73.

A public hearing on a proposed 2015 municipal budget will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 27.
