FARMINGTON — DDG Booksellers in Farmington is Maine’s official event site for Children’s Book Week 2015!
Taking place from May 4th through May 10th, Children’s Book Week is the annual celebration of children’s books and reading. Established in 1919 by the Children’s Book Council, who is the national non-profit trade association for children’s book publishers, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the United States. Every year, commemorative events are held nationwide at schools, libraries, bookstores, homes — wherever young readers and books connect.
In celebration of this, DDG will be hosting a number of events. First, there is a Diary Writing Contest, sponsored by the popular children’s series Dork Diaries and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Simply stop into the store, or print one off of the DDG website for an entry form and return it to DDG store May 7th to enter. The Prize Party will be held on May 7th at 5:30 at DDG and will be complete with fame, fabulous prizes and light refreshments.
The big Children’s Book Week extravaganza takes place at DDG starting at 10 a.m. on May 9th with a special story time featuring the Poky Little Puppy who will be present at the reading via full size costume character. Story time will be followed by Elephant and Piggie Hour, inviting children to participate in a variety of games and activities.
At 12 p.m., there will be book signing with author guest Megan Frazer Blakemore, author of The Water Castle, The Spy Catchers of Maple Hill, and The Friendship Riddle. The guest appearances continue at 1 p.m. with S.E. Grove, author of The Glass Sentence. Both signings will feature interactive challenges with the opportunity to win prizes.
