WATERVILLE — The Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Maine Youth of the Year will be awarded Tuesday, May 5, at the State House in Augusta.

Competing for this award are Christian O’Brien of Lewiston, Zoe Perkins of Norridgewock, Maria Fontaine of Portland, Naumu Charles of Portland, Lillian LaRochelle of South Portland and Kelsey Barrett of Gardiner.

The Youth of the Year title is bestowed upon an exemplary young person in recognition of leadership, service and academic excellence.

As the Youth of the Year, he or she will serve as an ambassador for all teens in the state, will receive a $5,000 college scholarship from BGCA, and will go on to compete in the regional Youth of the Year, ultimately vying for the national title.
