MONMOUTH — Hunter Richardson drove in Gage Cote and Nick Dovinsky in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off double for Monmouth’s 5-4 victory over Hall-Dale in a MVC match-up.

Richarson, who finished the day with three hits, including another double, recorded the win on the mound after coming on in relief for starter Nick Sanborn in the seventh.

Cote finished with two hitsfor Monmouth (3-1).

Hall-Dale had the lead going into the bottom of the seventh as they squeezed home the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning. Ryan Sinclair led the Bulldogs (2-2) with a triple and a double. Starter Brian Allen took the loss and had a double at the plate.

Bates sweeps

LEWISTON — The Bates baseball team used strong pitching and timely hitting to sweep Trinity College Saturday afternoon, securing a spot in the NESCAC Tournament for the second consecutive season.

The Bobcats walked off in Game 1, winning 3-2 in nine innings, and won Game 2, 3-0 in seven innings, completing the three-game series sweep of the Bantams (14-18, 4-8).

Bates (14-17, 6-5 NESCAC) received outstanding performances from a handful of seniors on senior day. Sam Berry had three hits in game one and drove in the game winning RBI, a walk-off hit through the right side in the bottom of the ninth that scored Ryan McCarthy. In Game 2, fellow senior Nate Pajka hit a first inning home run for the second day in a row, and Will Levangie threw a complete- game three-hit shut out to once again send the Bobcats to the post-season. Levangie tossed a gem in Game 2, striking out nine batters and issuing no walks in seven innings. Bates pitchers did not issue a walk in either game and combined for 17 strikeouts.

UMaine splits

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Scott Heath belted three home runs and picked up a win on the mound as the University of Maine baseball team split a doubleheader with NYIT on Saturday.

Heath struck out a career-high 11 batters in the game. The Black Bears won the first game 6-2, before falling in the second game 10-5.

Men’s lacrosse

Amherst 10, Bates 8

AMHERST, Mass. — In order to extend its win streak to seven games, the Bates men’s lacrosse team had little margin for error in Saturday’s NESCAC Championship semifinal game at top-seeded Amherst. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, it was the No. 5 nationally ranked and host Jeffs who got a few more breaks,at Pratt Field, 10-8, to advance to Sunday’s championship.

Bates had a slight 39-37 advantage in shot attempts in the game, which pitted the top two defenses in the conference. Junior goalie Joe Faria made 20 saves, but Amherst sophomore keeper Cody Tranbarger was equally tough, with 17 saves.

Junior Jack Allard scored three goals for Bates; senior Conor Henrie added two scores, and sophomore Kyle Weber contributed a goal and an assist. Junior Charlie Hildebrand and sophomoreCharlie Fay scored one goal apiece.

College softball

Binghamton 5, UMaine 4

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The University of Maine dropped its regular season finale at Binghamton by a score of 5-4 in eight innings on Saturday. Maine will now meet Stony Brook in the opening round of the America East Tournament.

Jessica Burk and Felicia Lennon each had two hits and two RBI, with a home run and a double each, to lead the offensive charge for the Black Bears.

Binghamton’s Lisa Cadogan tied the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh and the Bearcats went on to walk-off in the eighth.

Track and field

Masters shines at meet

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of Maine men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in Day 1 of the 2015 America East Track and Field Championships at Albany on Saturday. The women’s team sits in fifth place with 25 points, while the men are in sixth place with 21 points.

On the women’s side, Robyn McFetters was victorious in the hammer throw. Her throw of 180’09” took home first place. Emily Boardman was fourth with a throw of 157’04”, while Rachel Bergeron placed eighth with a throw of 144’02”.

Jaclyn Masters of Auburn cleared a height of 11’11.75” in the pole vault. There was a three-way tie for top honors and she earned second place in a jump off.

Aultman signs with Dolphins

ORONO — Former University of Maine football standout wide receiver and kick returner Damarr Aultman has signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Miami Dolphins.

Aultman finished his Black Bear career ranked fifth all-time in receptions at Maine (162) and seventh all-time in receiving yards (2,061). In 2014, Aultman was honored to the All-CAA Second Team as a kick return specialist and to the All-Conference third team at wide receiver.

Aultman capped his time at Maine with 18 touchdowns in 45 games while his 28 kickoff returns in 2014 were tied for the all-time Maine lead for returns in a season. Aultman also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns while a member of the Black Bears.
