If the Auburn School Committee follows the recommendations of the transportation subcommittee, approximately 300 more children will be walking to school next year. Meeting at the Chamberlain School Thursday night, the subcommittee reviewed both the present busing policy, which has not been enforced, and a proposed revision to the policy to determine what impact either would have on ridership if enforced. The school system’s business manager, Jude Cyr, said that if the present busing policy were enforced, a total of 420 children currently riding the bus would have to walk to school. That policy, with some exceptions, requires students to walk if they are in grades K-8 and live less than one mile from school, or if they are in grades 9-12 and live less than 1.5 miles from school.
