1924 – 2015

AUBURN — Elmer R. Ames, 90, of Litchfield, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn, following a long illness.

He was born in Swanville, on May 5, 1924, a son of the late Libbeus and Lillian (Sylvester) Ames. After living in the area for a short time, at a young age, he moved to Litchfield and attended local schools there. In 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during World War II. On Oct. 8, 1949, he married his love, Mary Snyder, and they had two children together.

Elmer was a member of the Litchfield American Legion Post 181. He loved his work and will always be remembered as a hard worker. He worked for various construction companies for many years, until his retirement in 1986. Even then, he continued to work!

Elmer is survived by his children, Alicia Johnson of Wales, and Doug Ames and his wife, Mae, of Litchfield. He also leaves behind his five grandchildren, Danielle Ames and her friend, Tony, Sarah Lachance and her fiance, Jason, Brad Danse and his wife, Elizabeth, Shawn Johnson and his wife, Michelle, and Mike Johnson and his wife, Donna; as well as 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
