MEXICO — Twenty-four people took eight minutes Wednesday evening to approve the Region 9 School of Applied Technology’s proposed $2.24 million secondary education budget and $308,297 adult and community education budget.

Moderator David Austin read each of the budget articles before asking for a vote following no discussion. Afterward, the vocational school’s Board of Directors ratified both votes.

The 2015-16 secondary education budget is up $107,841 over this fiscal year’s $2.13 million. The addition of culinary arts and business programs for the next school year and a small increase in staff salaries accounted for the increase.

For the 2015-16 budget, the school board doubled the amount of carryover being applied: from $80,000 last year to $160,000 this year.

That reduction to $2.08 million will be assessed to Byron, Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, Hanover, Mexico, Peru, Roxbury and Rumford, which comprise Regional School Unit 10; Bethel, Greenwood, Newry and Woodstock in RSU 44; and Andover, Gilead and Upton.

Half of it is based on their total enrollment in high school and half of it is based on how many students attend Region 9.
