The Maranacook String Band will join Maine-ly Harmony women’s barbershop chorus on stage at the University of Maine at Augusta’s Jewett Hall at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 16. The youthful bluegrass/roots music band is known for its gorgeous three- and four-part harmony singing, sophisticated lead singing of vocalists Julie Churchill and Dana Reynolds, blazing virtuosity of mandolinist Dan Simons and fiddler Max Silverstein and clever songwriting of Stan Keach. Keach founded the band in 2009 when he was a teacher of gifted and talented students at Maranacook Community High School in Readfield. The band has gone on to become one of the top bluegrass acts in Maine with a busy concert schedule and a highly acclaimed debut CD, “Bear in the Barn.” The band is also featured on Keach’s CD, “Cry of the Loon,” and other original songs about Maine. Tickets are $15 general seating, available at Stacy’s Hallmark in Augusta and at the door. FMI: 207-582-5523 or visit maine-lyharmony.com or Facebook.
