BUCKFIELD — More than 18 months after construction began, the roughly $1 million Buckfield Fire Rescue Station is ready to be officially opened to the public.
An open house is set from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is at 11 a.m.
Tours of the building, the firetrucks and the ambulances will be given. There will be free car seat inspections and a blood pressure clinic. The smoke trailer will be on site and personnel will share hands-on fire safety techniques.
The open house will celebrate the building on Turner Street in front of the Municipal Building.
Construction began in October 2014, after voters approved it at the June 2013 town meeting. The town’s emergency vehicles and the fire and rescue departments are at the new station.
There will be goodies for the children, food, including hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, desserts and punch, and a 50/50 and other raffles.
