NEW GLOUCESTER — Maine Old Cemetery Association will celebrate Maine Old Cemetery Week May 17 to May 23 to encourage and support the preservation, maintenance and study of old cemeteries. MOCA will kick off the annual observance with its spring program Saturday, May 16, at the First Congregational Christian Church on 19 Gloucester Hill Road in New Gloucester.

MOCA is also offering a “Cleaning and Leaning” workshop on Saturday, May 23, in Waterboro, hosted by the Waterboro Cemetery Committee. The workshop will teach the public how to clean and repair gravestones. A donation of $20 is requested to register and includes a pizza lunch.

MOCA is also encouraging visitors to cemeteries to report any vandalism to authorities, and to MOCA directly.
