LEWISTON — The city of Lewiston’s Wellness Team was presented with a Gold Work Healthy Program Award by Healthy Androscoggin. The program recognizes businesses and organizations within greater Androscoggin County that place a high priority on promoting good health for employees.

Lewiston’s Wellness Team and Program has the full support of the city administration and operates with grant funding and extensive resources provided by the Maine Municipal Association.

“We’re excited about the gold award! It’s an honor and a distinction that we’ve been striving to achieve. All the hard work of the team and our employees has paid off, and this recognition will no doubt inspire us to keep up the good work,” said Joyce Ruby, chair of the wellness team.

Healthy Androscoggin’s Work Healthy Program advocates a tobacco-free lifestyle, physical activity and healthy eating for employees. The idea is that organizations benefit from a healthier workforce with reduced absenteeism, reduced disability costs, reduced health care costs, improved productivity and higher employee morale.

The events and activities facilitated by Lewiston’s Wellness team, along with the city’s health promotion programs and policies, encourages and provides multiple ways for employees and their family members to achieve or enhance a healthy lifestyle.
