Just at this time Roak’s greenhouses, Auburn, are worthy of a visit. Of course, there are a multitude of plants in these large houses and Mr. Roak is always pleased to show them to visitors. The Memorial day flowers this year, are especially fine and will be in excellent condition for the day. This spring the stock of aster plants are especially fine, while the Marguerite carnations which are offered are hardy looking and among the best ever put out. It is rather interesting to note that this week Mr. Roak received an order for 100 geraniums to be sent to one woman in Providence, R. I., to be set out in her flower garden.

As a Maine Street ’90 project. Elm Street School fourth graders in Mechanic Falls are learning how to extract rubbings at town memorials. On May 15 they used crayons of various colors to transfer to paper the etched names of veterans from the Civil War Memorial at the town center. The names of 423 war survivors and 120 soldiers who died are inscribed on two faces of the memorial.

The material in Looking Back is reproduced exactly as it originally appeared, although misspellings and errors made at that time may be edited.
